Maria del Mar Bonet presents “L’aigua no cansa”

“L’aigua no cansa”, by Maria del Mar Bonet, is a deeply Mallorcan and Mediterranean album, conceived, created and produced entirely in Mallorca. The album represents a new milestone in her artistic trajectory, with a return to her roots from a contemporary perspective in her way of working and creating. Poetry, always central to her work, plays an essential role. The album brings together nine songs that dialogue with her own texts, poems by other authors and popular tradition, a constant source of inspiration that gives meaning to the album’s title: “L’aigua no cansa”.

The repertoire also includes compositions by Toni Cuenca and Antoni Parera Fons —who sets a poem by Blai Bonet to music—, as well as a piece by Mauro Pagani on a fragment of the Greek poet Alcman of Sparta from the 7th century BC. The album closes with the delicate Lluna de pau, with music by Cuban pianist José María Vitier, in a particularly evocative ending. The album edition has been specially curated and incorporates photographs by the Mallorcan photographer, filmmaker and cinematographer Pep Bonet, from his series of portraits for the book Paradís (Disset, 2025).

The images, taken with instant film chemically treated to obtain a medium-format negative, present unique textures and alterations. Based on these photographs, a limited premium edition has been created in book-disc format in a fold-out accordion and a vinyl made of three blades with gold staming designed by Anita Sancho. The artistic direction of the project has been carried out by Maria del Mar Bonet herself, who also signs the production of the album together with musician and producer Toni Pastor, both of whom are also responsible for the arrangements.

The musicians Toni Pastor (lute), Marc Grasas (guitar and dobro), Marko Lohikari (double bass), Benjamí Salom (violin), José Llorach (percussion),
Llorenç Barceló (keyboards) and Tomàs Salom (castanets), with the special collaboration of pianist José María Vitier on the song that closes the album.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by sound engineer Mateu Picornell, who has worked closely with Maria del Mar Bonet, and has also contributed essential artistic contributions to the project. The recording was assisted by Pere Estelrich at the Swing Studios.
