“S’aigo no” is the second single preview of the new album “L’aigua no cansa”by Maria del Mar Bonet. On a popular Mallorcan music, to the tune of sprinkling almonds, Maria del Mar Bonet writes completely free lyrics, with the total intention of protest. The song opens with lute and violin, creating a solemn atmosphere over which her voice emerges, intense and unmistakable. An almost ritualistic chorus —“S’aigo no”— articulates a piece that grows in dust and transforms into a song of justice, between desire and denunciation, evoking the recent tragedy in Valencia and violence against women. Organic, emotional and deeply rooted.
“Blaus i sol de roses blanques” was the first preview of Maria del Mar Bonet’s new album “L’aigua no cansa” which was presented on March 23. The song is based on a fragment of the poem Final de la misa de presanctificats by Blai Bonet, with music by Antoni Parera Fons. This piece paves the way for the artist’s new work, where music and poetry naturally intertwine, turning the poetic word into song and emotion. Link to digital listening
Maria del Mar Bonet’s new album L’aigua no cansa will be released on May 15 in two luxury formats consisting of a pop-up CD-book and a three-slide vinyl, designed with photographs by the Mallorcan photographer, filmmaker and cinematographer Pep Bonet.
The performance features the voice of Maria del Mar Bonet accompanied by Toni Pastor (lute), Marc Grasas (guitar), Marko Lohikari (double bass), Benjamí Salom (violin), José Llorach (percussion), and Llorenç Barceló (keyboards), in a delicate and deeply Mediterranean soundscape. Recorded, mixed and mastered by sound engineer Mateu Picornell who has worked closely with Maria del Mar Bonet, and has also contributed essential artistic contributions to the project, and the assistance of Pere Estelrich at the Swing Studios.
